Serafín Fanjul est né en 1945 et demeure l’un des plus prestigieux arabisant espagnols. Ancien directeur du Centre culturel hispanique du Caire, professeur de littérature arabe à l’Université autonome de Madrid, membre de l’Académie Royale d’Histoire depuis 2011, il a consacré sa vie à l’étude de l’Islam comme phénomène religieux, sociologique, économique et politique.
